Claim Information

Filing an Insurance Claim

When something goes wrong — a car accident, storm damage, a break-in, a fire — the last thing you want is confusion about what to do next. That's why we're here.

At Triangle Insurance Alliance, our job doesn't stop when you buy a policy. When you need to file a claim, call us first at 919-322-3640 and we'll walk you through exactly what to do, who to call, and what to expect. We'll be your advocate through the entire process.

What to Do Immediately After a Loss

No matter what type of claim you're filing, these steps apply in almost every situation:

1. Make sure everyone is safe first. If there is any risk to life or safety, call 911 before anything else. No insurance claim is worth more than your safety or the safety of others.

2. Document everything before touching anything. Take photos and videos of all damage before making any repairs or moving anything. The more documentation you have, the smoother your claim will go. Photograph from multiple angles and include wide shots showing the full scope of damage as well as close-ups of specific damage.

3. Prevent further damage if you safely can. Most insurance policies require policyholders to take reasonable steps to prevent additional damage after a loss. For example, if a storm blows out a window, cover it with a tarp. Keep receipts for any emergency repairs you make.

4. Call us. Before you call your insurance carrier, call Triangle Insurance Alliance at 919-322-3640. We'll help you understand your coverage, prepare you for the claims process, and make sure you're treated fairly every step of the way.

5. File your claim promptly. Most policies require claims to be reported within a reasonable timeframe. Don't delay — contact your carrier as soon as possible after a loss.

How to Reach Your Insurance Carrier Directly

If you need to file a claim outside of our business hours, contact your insurance carrier directly using the number on your insurance card or policy documents. Most carriers have 24/7 claims lines.

If you're not sure which carrier your policy is with or can't locate your policy documents, call us at 919-322-3640 or email us and we'll look it up for you immediately.

Auto Insurance Claims — What to Do After an Accident

If you're involved in a car accident, follow these steps:

At the scene:

  • Check for injuries and call 911 if anyone is hurt
  • Move vehicles out of traffic if it is safe to do so
  • Call the police and get a police report number — this is important for your claim
  • Exchange insurance information, driver's license numbers, and contact information with all other drivers involved
  • Get contact information from any witnesses
  • Take photos of all vehicles, the accident scene, road conditions, and any visible injuries
  • Do not admit fault or apologize — even casually — as this can affect your claim

After the scene:

  • Notify your insurance carrier as soon as possible
  • Call Triangle Insurance Alliance at 919-322-3640 — we'll guide you through the rest of the process
  • Keep records of all expenses related to the accident including rental car costs, medical bills, and any other out-of-pocket costs

Homeowners Insurance Claims — What to Do After Property Damage

Whether it's storm damage, a fire, water damage, theft, or vandalism — here's what to do:

  • Call 911 if the situation involves a crime, fire, or safety emergency
  • Document all damage thoroughly with photos and video before cleanup begins
  • Make a written list of all damaged or destroyed items including approximate values and purchase dates if possible
  • Keep all damaged items until your adjuster has inspected them — do not throw anything away without permission from your carrier
  • Make temporary repairs to prevent further damage and keep all receipts
  • If your home is uninhabitable, keep receipts for hotel stays and meals — your policy may cover additional living expenses while repairs are made
  • Call Triangle Insurance Alliance at 919-322-3640 before signing anything or accepting any settlement offer

Renters Insurance Claims

If your personal belongings are damaged, stolen, or destroyed:

  • File a police report immediately if the loss involves theft or vandalism
  • Document all damaged or missing items with photos and a written inventory
  • Gather receipts, credit card statements, or any other proof of ownership and value for damaged items
  • Contact your carrier to report the claim
  • Call us at 919-322-3640 and we'll help you navigate the process

Business Insurance Claims

If your business experiences a loss — property damage, a liability claim, a workers compensation incident, or any other covered event — time is critical. Contact us immediately at 919-322-3640 so we can help you respond quickly and protect your business interests.

For workers compensation claims specifically, North Carolina requires employers to report workplace injuries to their carrier within 5 days of the incident. Don't wait.

What to Expect After You File

Once your claim is filed, here's the general process:

Claim acknowledgment — Your carrier will confirm receipt of your claim, typically within 1-3 business days.

Adjuster assignment — An adjuster will be assigned to your claim. For property damage claims, they will schedule an inspection of the damage. For auto claims, they may inspect your vehicle at a repair shop.

Investigation — The adjuster will review documentation, inspect damage, and evaluate your claim against your policy coverage.

Settlement offer — Once the investigation is complete, your carrier will make a settlement offer. Before accepting any settlement, call us at 919-322-3640 — we'll review the offer with you and make sure it's fair.

Payment and resolution — Once you accept the settlement, payment is typically issued within a few business days.
